I have a Twitter!
So here, just one day later… another blog entry!
I signed up for Twitter this week. Gordon from Onespec and SempreAvanti came and taught me all a newbie Twitterer needs to start tweeting. Including, apparently, the ridiculous-sounding lingo that goes along with it. Did you know people who use Twitter are known as Tweeple? Brilliant!
I can now tell every single one of my 8 followers (8! I have 8 followers!) what I’m up to at any minute of the day, as well as see what the 43 I am currently following are doing. Yes, it’s fine to have more people that you are following than followers.. though it does feel a little lonely…. Anyway.
Things I’ve learned in there so far:
- It’s easy to create an account. You need a name, password, a few details and that’s about it. Gordon reckons it’s essential to add a photo or logo, and then personalise your background. I threw in my mug shot and the new Crescendo logo as a background, and started tweeting.
- You can search for topics and people that interest you. A good way to find useful people to follow, is by looking at one account you like the look of, and see who they’re following.
- There are spammers in there. Surprise surprise. So check who you are following, and if they start mentioning dodgy things, un-follow or even block them.
- There IS a point. I may not have gotten very far with my 8 followers, but it’s early days yet! Once you build a loyal base of people who want to know what you are up to, you have a very useful marketing tool in your hands.
Until next time… find me on Twitter here.
